How ACA Insurance Market Reforms Could Affect Large Employers

Many large employers believe they are exempt from most of the new insurance market reforms enacted under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). However, beginning in 2017, the ACA allows a State to elect to permit the sale of fully-insured large group health plans through the newly created ACA Exchange operating within the respective State.   If such an election is made, the same insurance market reforms that currently apply to fully-insured group health plans purchased by small employers will apply to the fully-insured large group health insurance market.
